Medical Nutrition Therapy, often abbreviated as MNT, is an evidence-based medical approach to treating certain chronic conditions through the use of an individually-tailored nutrition plan. This nutrition plan is ordered and approved by a primary care physician and implemented by a Registered Dietitian.Medical nutrition therapy is necessary in treating several health problems such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, tube feeding, malnutrition, weight management, autoimmune disorders, gut health, and eating disorders.
A diet plan helps in alleviating symptoms and effects of many diseases, such as diabetes. Adequate nutrition is critical in type 1 or type 2 diabetes patients to the extent that it helps in recovering from the disease completely.
